    The Story:

Okay so I searched around and found some posts that sort of tackled my problem only mine seems to be one of mixed evils.

So one day a while back I was driving on the highway and well here in Tampa rush hour sucks and I hit "the parking lot" so as I slowed to a stop my oil pressure dropped and the car did this weird sputter thing and almost died but then came back alive and started running fine. (not sure if this had anything to do with current problem but figured it might)

Next ( a couple weeks later) I noticed that my oil pressure dropped after 15 minutes or so to about 10 - 20... So paranoid I was loosing oil i put a half a quart more in and it gave me a little more pressure but didn't fix the problem.

Also around the same time my car started heating all the way up to red then after showing the somethings wrong with something light for 30 seconds it declined to half way. Then a minute or two after that same thing again. So I then added some water to the radiator and all was fine it stopped overheating (but oil pressure not fixed).

    Current Problem:

Car is overheating and oil pressure is dropping to nothing only when idling and after car heats up. I already replaced the sending unit.

I am pretty technically inclined however from what Ive read sounds like it it could be the oil pump and or a worn bearing or gasket etc... Is there any way to tell exactly what it is?

open your radiator cap are there little brown or black oily specs in there? how about check your dipstick is your oil miscolored white or foamy?

if yes to any of this it is a gasket issue

is your radiator full to the top? how old is your antifreeze and is it green or orangeish brown?

hm i would take it to a radiator shop and have your cooling system pressure tested and flushed.. that can tell you alot i assume that you can not see any coolant dripping or leaking anywhere.. can you smell it? or any smoke from the exhuast?

First off, oil pressure is not oil level! If you're losing oil pressure, then chances are you're going to need a new motor soon :(. 20psi isn't much, and is low for our cars; I freak out when mine drops below 45! Get a mechanical gauge and see if it's really that low or if you're sending unit's just going out. If you over heated the car, you could have damaged numerous things, which could lead to the low oil pressure. You need to get both of these fixed ASAP.

No smoke from exhaust and right now i am assuming it is mostly water since ive refilled twice with only water. I can see some water dripping after car is parked but it looks like condensation from a/c. To get it to stop overheating i can just fill it up however then i need to find the leak right...

The real problem is the oil pressure. How can i tell if its the oil pump? If its not the oil pump then its what head gasket? If it is a gasket problem how hard is it to fix as i have never went deeper into an engine than the valve covers...

I haven't driven more than a minute with car overheating (temp), and as i said I can add coolant for time being to stop the car from overheating. I believe the car is overheating because of coolant level. When the level is good it cools the engine perfectly.

How would i go about Testing with a mechanical gauge? Plug it in where the sending unit would be?

What is most likely the culprit of loosing oil pressure like that? how can i test to see what needs to be replaced?

Okay so I got a mechanical oil pressure gauge and also a compression tester kit. I was about to replace the sending unit with the gauge when i heard a bubbling sound. Upon inspection it seemed to be oil boiling. Its in the gap on top of the valve covers. Any thoughts?

Too dark to work today but tomorrow i plan on doing compression test. It seems i need to come from underneath the engine to access the spark plugs. Is this true?

Unfortuanantly yes it is easiest to get to most of the plugs from under the car. Please post what you find. I am now curious about this as I just looked at a car that the lot said has a blown head gasket but I see NO signs of it. it is also loosing water...

Okay so I changed oil and am including pics. Oil looked ok to me however I am not a mechanic ...

I also took some shots of some oil leaks...

Oil is sitting on top of valve covers on both sides...

I am now going to go see if i can figure out how to use the compression tester i just got... Any tips/hints?
