you can look at the dmv records and see the mileage reports for the car
the only other thing i could say is there might be a date on the cluster somewhere that might give you an idea

If inspection he put original speedo back for that.. so staggered it.. to compensate.. it could have original speedo back in car at moment but removed for years. Like I said their is no real way, if someone tries to fool system is easy enough.

Re: Is the speddometer cluster milage record stay on the cluster or computer????
On almost all newer cars, if you change clusters, the car will not start unless the dealer programs it to the car, and at that time they will correct the odometer. I know this from first hand experience, I've had to change clusters on 2 cars in the past 3 years, a 99 Mustang and a 99 Grand Am.So if your car starts, more then likely the odometer is correct. They're not like the old mechanical clusters of yesteryear. And as another poster said, you can always check the carfax to see if everything looks right. And by the way, I'm new here. I just got a 2001 V6. I've been looking around the site for some ideas, and I saw this post and thought I'd try and help out. Nice forum guys, I'm sure I'll be using it a lot.

I have replaced my cluster in my car, the speedo stuck alot of the time and I got tired of it. New guage had 5k less miles on it. I never had any problems.
I have a 2001 Camaro.
