  • Oil Consumption after rebuild

I have about 400 miles on my recent rebuild (bearings, cam, lifters, cyl hone and new rings). Changed the oil last night and it looks like it used up a quart of oil in the first 400 miles. Is this common? I understand that it could take up to 1000 miles for the rings to fully seat.
There are NO oil leaks. It is not burning oil. There is the usual white steam from the tailpipe when you first start it up (it fall and cool here in NJ) bit it goes away in the first few minutes and there is no oil smell whatsoever.

    Thanks,
    Scott

You might have not put enough in when you first started it , since you just changed it , check on it once a week to make sure your not having problems.

yea, if this is the first oil change, there will be oil that won't make it's way back to the oil pan so it will be lower than what it was when added for the first time... oil will coat everything, plus sit up in the heads and various other nooks and crannies...

just do as ssms said and check it every week or so...
