Been driving cars with clutchs forever. Bought this '98 new and got 85,000 before first clutch problem. Slave went out and rebuilt the clutch at the same time. At 99,000 the slave went out again. At 123,000 slave out again and clutch needed rebuild. Now at 135,000 had to have another slave cylinder. Anyone else having slave cylinders going out this quick. It seemed great til the first one.
No, I don't ride the clutch
No, never drove this car hard. Did some pushing in my other Fbody cars but not this one.
Yes, reputable mechanic doing the work.
Very odd to be burning through slaves that much. I know it's gonna sound dumb, but are you putting the correct amount of Dot3 fluid in the reservoir, then bleeding it properly? If so, there has to be something else that is making them burn-out so fast, but I have no idea what/why.
The mechanic I use is highly recommended and everything else he does has been good so I assume he is using the right fluid and amount. Wondered if there was a design flaw or something but couldn't find much here or by using google search for "Fbody clutch slave cylinders". The original clutch lasted 85000 miles and the one put in then lasted only about 38000.
Hey everyone! I've been trying to remove my transmission for two days now! I need to replace the clutch. Only thing I've got left holding the transmission...
