  • I have a few guesses but....

ok, so when my car is at full running temp, it starts to make this high pitched whine noise, and it doesn't do it at WOT or at idle, just normal driving down the road..which makes me think is the EGR valve getting stuck open or closed? since EGR doesn't open at idle or WOT, that was my guess, or the only other thing i could think of was a vacuum leak??
    any guesses?
    if so, how to fix?

also, idk if this is a problem, but when i put my car in any other gear but park or neutral, u can hear a kind of hissing sound..maybe from tranny??? idk, i thouht it had to do with the increased pressure do to my shift kit? but just wantto be sure nothing serious.

Maybe exhaust leak? or EGR like you said. Vacuum leak your car would idle rough or die when you start it.

i was leaning toward EGR or exhaust leak, you can hear the exhaust rattle at times, but it's all getting replaced soon. high flow cat, 2.5" piping, dynomax super turbo muffler, haven't decided on tips, maybe will just dump it..headers are still questionable...i'll have to wait til the moneys right but if i replace everything but manifolds and it still does that, i know it the manifolds then..i just don't understand why the high pitched whine only happens at full running temp

i've heard great things about dynomax..my friend has a 81 chevy pickup, dropped an LT1 in there, has long tubes, cat delete, and dynomax bullets, sounds great..figured i'd stay with the brand

X2, but I like the 3" mufflers, I haven't heard a 2.5" so it might be different in sound.

would it be bad to have 2.5" piping then go into a 3" muffler? do they sound better dumped or tips

I have 2.5" piping to a 3" magnaflow exhaust system. I always thought it was nice, but really. Its just useless sense your flow is only as good as your smallest diameter pipe. But headers are VERY important, get some pacesetters like everyone else. I don't think you'll be disappointed, I like mine cept there rusted to all hell.

I like the dumped tips , I have 2- 3" gibson polished turn downs on the drivers side that sound mean, but I'm cammed too with RK sport headers and built engine.

here is a soundclip of my dynomax its through stock maifolds 3" catco cat, 3" pipe back to the dynomax and 2.5 pipes to the round rolled tips

crappy quality and clip but you get the idea
