  • 99+ random loss of power?

Alright guys, just curious what your thoughs are on this.

Occasionally I will be romp on it and the car feels like I am only giving it 1/2 throttle and like I am pulling something behind me. Then I will put it in neutral rev it up a bit, drop the clutch flooring it will stick and take off like a bat out of hell running great.

Its not very common but it happens.

Things I can likely rule out
    -fuel filter(less then 10k miles)
-plugs/coils/wires(plugs and wires are relatively new, no misfires.)
-CAT, was replaced like 6,000 miles ago but last time I was at the track I did pop out a Catalyst inefficiency code, I thought nothing of it since I had I-pipe unhooked, I cleared it rehooked it up and its been like 750 miles since no codes. It only popped up during my last run down the track.
    -Not the clutch slipping.

    My thoughts on the problem...

    1st... Electonic TB
-Gayest invention ever, I see no benefit from it what so ever, but do you think its a problem with this. Its always had a little lag, its like a auto, (you floor it and it takes a quick sec for it to engage and downshift) but many others tell me this is common, and I can imagine I have seen how slowly the TB opens.

Anyway to test the TB blade motor, it has 8 pinouts.

    2nd... Fuel Pump
-I have noticed it get a little loud(ever run your pump low and it hums a little louder) ocaasionally not all the time, it will just whine a little louder then normal. I would be slightly disgusted that I could kill a fuel pump on a '00 camaro with 44k on it.

I did just get a spare TB with motor and MAF yesterday(to be ported and tapped for nitrous) Think its worth swapping TBs, I don't mind just don't want ot have to deal with getting a gasket and putting it in right away, because this thing will be pulled and worked on how I want it so it will not be on there immediately.

Sounds like a PCM problem.. My tranny issues ended up being a overloaded driver in the PCM which also caused the PCM to read misfires that weren't there. It runs great now.. If I were you I'd run it to the dealership and have them check the PCM

Your clutch could be slipping, it may not be the motor. The easiest sign of that is drive on the highway in 5th gear and give it gas. If the RPM's jump up (as you know they barely climb in 5th) the it is not grabbing all the way.

Throttle lag is part of the throttle by wire programming. The Y87 auto's had an updated from the PCM from the factory to remove it.

From the Technical Archive, Year 1999:

"For Y87 automatics, there is a PCM update from GM that will "correct throttle lag during heavy acceleration". For non-Y87 automatics and all manuals there is no correction because GM decided that there is no need for one."

Just two possibilities to throw out there.

        Its definitely not clutch slippage.

Is it a free PCM update from GM?

ITs been cleaned twice, and motor seafoamed(s cans) its a 2k, with 44,373 miles.

Only thing I could do is take it off and scrub it throughly and clean it.

Don't worry I know the benefits of making sure the upper intake and Tb are clean and working well with my 3.4L.

My car now is in great shape, clean wise especially the TB, definitley not hte problemn

My car is doing a sililar thing only it is an auto. On the highway on long trips in 4th the rpms will jump when I hit the gas because for some reason it it wont go into overdrive. It's strange because it usually works fine, and I know the torque converter can lock up, its more like something that should be isnt telling it to.

CamaroKing...search for TCC solenoid. Common problem and it sounds like you have it.
