  • AAARRRRRRRR my wiper scratched my windshield

the very last peice to hold the rubber part on came loose the other day and it has now scratched my windshield in a big ars ark on the drivers side. Is there any way to fix this without replacing the windshield. And how much KY do you think I need to pay the bill?

Like hell I am paying to have it replaced. Think I could make an insurance claim on it?

You could make insurance pay for it, but don't. It wont be that much $$ to replace yourself. If you throw that on your insurance company, they'll screw you over, and start jacking up rates as soon as they can.

Or they might be reasonable. After all, it does impair your vision, making your driving less safe. You're putting your car, yourself, and other drivers at risk with impaired vision. Dad cracked my windshield trying to get my wiper arms off (we couldn't see how far the glass came down below the cowl, and he accidentally put some pressure on it). Our insurance company (State Farm) asked no questions and didn't give us any problems. It was replaced a couple days later, and only took about 30 minutes. Now, I'm not telling you to crack your windshield or anything...

Mine gave me two small patches. They told me that they will fix cracks no bigger than those.
Scratches they may not cover at all.

andrew, this happened to mine also but, it was on the passengers side so I dont see it. I dont know if yours is messing with your vision or not but, mine's not so I just left it that way.

I think there may be a window scratch remover product out there. I also have the lines in my windshield.

I've got the same thing, I just live with it. Sometimes when the sun hits it just right its kind of hard to see, but usually I only notice it as an eyesore, rather than an distraction/vision impairment

I can live with it but it just makes me mad. And my deductible is $500 so I prob would be better off just paying for it my self.

you can check your laws, in FL if your windshield is damaged your insurance has to replace it for free, no deductable, since it impairs your vision, but of course they will jack up your rates.

IU never tried zaino glass polish but I had the same problems you did on my old car but probably worse. Guy I sold it to just bought a windshield off a guy parting out a car locally and installed it. Think it cost him like $180.

Is raping you with the rates just a florida thing?

Call a glass doctor (look for windshield repair in the yellow pages) and see if they can fix it. A lot of places won't fix any crack over 6 inches long (length of a dollar bill is what they usually say which is 6 inches). However, if yours is a scratch rather than a crack maybe they will.

Also, you can buy a windshield repair kit from JC Whitney, which you may be able to use to fix it if you can't find a glass doctor that will do it. The repair kit is only $20 which may be worth a try before you fork out $250+ for a windshield. The repair kit is somewhat hard to use though.

Also, I paid $259 with tax and install for a new windshield. So depending on where you live that should give you a ballpark figure for replacement.
