  • Fuel Pressure

    Before I replaced the head gaskets I ran a fuel pressure test on the 97. The readings were a little odd to say the least but I figured I have bigger fish to fry so I would leave that till later..Well it is later. I am hoping that I can gain a little insite on this. Here is the progression of things

    1: Connect Fuel pressure guage to fuel rail.
    2: Turn key to the "ON" position
    3: Fuel pump starts
    4: Fuel pressure builds to about 34 Lbs (about normal)
    5: Fuel pump stops running (normal)
    6 Fuel pressure drops to 0 Lbs (NOT NORMAL)

    If I start the car (has to crank till fuel pressure is buildt back up). The fuel pressure stays about where is should.

    Any ideas? Is this a fuel return problem, a fuel pump issue? I did visually inspect the injectors when I had them off and they (looked) fine.

    as im not very good with fuel injected cars, i would have to say take a look at the fuel pressure regulator, it may be bad, and is just letting the fuel drain back

      I agree, that's a classic symptom of a bad FPR.

          FPR, or the hose on your fuel pump is not all the way on.

            OK so is it a possibility that this would cause a low/rough idle as well?

              I had a bad FPR, did the same thing to pressure, caused hard starting when it was warm, too rich, and a misfire.
              Mine was leaking fuel into the vacuum line. Found it by taking off the vacuum line while running and could feel fuel coming out.
