~Shimmy/vibration when braking - Not felt in peddle~
~Shimmy/vibration when braking - Not felt in peddle~
This happens when braking from 55MPH+. This happened before and after pads were replaced and all parts and pins greased and checked for proper operation. As said in title; there is no pulsation from the brake peddle.
So what should I replace next?
My guess would be shocks, but dont know if that would cause my issue...
Re: ~Shimmy/vibration when braking - Not felt in peddle~
I know "no pulse in the pedal", but were the rotors were turned? I'd check for any loose broken, or torn suspension joints and make sure the wheels are aligned before throwing shocks at it. I'm just not sure how shocks would cause pulsation (mine are pretty bad, but it doesn't pulse when braking).
Re: ~Shimmy/vibration when braking - Not felt in peddle~
i used oe rotors before and warped them in a very short period of time i switched to R1 Concepts drilled and slotted loved them had them for a few years no problems (i am super hard on brakes) they got wet while being hot one too many times though and warped finally i will buy another set of them in the next few weeks i love the rotors they make..

I have the same rotors. They're working out f'n great so far. I had so much trouble with a ton of other rotors warping but these are solid so far.
Re: ~Shimmy/vibration when braking - Not felt in peddle~
i can promise you you have warped rear rotors..if they were warped in the front, you would feel it in the steering wheel..it's the rear ones..i just replaced mine, a shop said they were extremely warped, so badly a machine couldn't bend them back. I upgraded to baer drilled and slotted rotors and ceramic brake pads..very good upgrade in my opinion..$110 for pair of rotors, $35 pads, $3 brake cleaner..1.5 hours of time.

Didnt know about that. Always thought you had to have a pulsation. Learn something new all the time.
Like said, shocks were just a guess. They do need to be replaced either way. Im running on 177K miles and the shocks say DeCarbon (so they may even be stock LOL)

How about those Ebay ones? I doubt I can afford some high grade aftermarket.

Wont take me long to do. I just recently had them all off. All pads are new and everything is cleaned and properly greased.
BTW: If its warped rotors; wouldnt it do it everytime I braked? Because it doesnt do it everytime to me... Thanks for all the input guys
Re: ~Shimmy/vibration when braking - Not felt in peddle~
I also should have mentioned that my car seems to wander the road. Its like I keep over correcting but Im not. It also seems to be more obvious when Im to a slanted side of the road Ex; right side of the lane will pull right and left side will pull left. What could cause this?

Check your control arm bushings, ball joints, and tie rod ends also. If any of those are worn the car will wander, and if they're bad enough it could contribute to the shimmy. Rotors would also be my first guess though.
And, I must be the only person in the world who has had trouble with the R1 rotors. I had put a new set of the Summit D/S rotors (also made by R1) on the car, and after 15k-20k miles they showed noticeable wear - and I'm not all that tough on brakes. Then, like a dummy I went out to the track with these on the car. With just HP+ pads on the front I cracked one of the front rotors in my 3rd session of the day. Here are a few photos of the rotor - notice all of the cracks run through a hole in the rotor. I'll never run cross-drilled rotors on the track again.

Re: ~Shimmy/vibration when braking - Not felt in peddle~
You most likely only need new rotors. I had the same problem in my Z28. Don't bother getting them turned, you'll just warp them again the first rain. Do this. Go to ebay and look up RotorPro's tell them the year, make, and model of your car, ask for their paypal account information and send them a message and ask them "Will $200 SHIPPED work?" - they will say yes and you will recieve 4 new rotors of your choice of color. You can opt to have them slotted, cross drilled, dimpled, or drilled/slotted, drilled/dimpled. They can also come as blanks. Either way, I went with warping Duralast rotors after mere weeks after use and I went with these rotors for 2 years without ANY problems.
Re: ~Shimmy/vibration when braking - Not felt in peddle~
OE rotors I have on one car are holding up really well. Anything I've bought from autozone has sucked. I also bought some other rotors from our dealer at work. Couldn't tell ya the brand name but it doesn't matter cause those didn't last a year either. Just as with most car parts, you get what you pay for.
Re: ~Shimmy/vibration when braking - Not felt in peddle~
my brakes got reallllly hot the other day while i was hitting some new twisties pretty hard, and my rotors were crying pretty bad---ridiculous steering wheel shake and poor pedal feel under hard braking. definitely warped, time for an upgrade on the BallerMaro
been looking at the R1 concepts d/s rotors i've been hearing so much praise about, or I might bite the bullet and get some nasty crossdrilled brembo rotors.
