temp questions from newbie

I was just wondering what temperature everyone else runs at. My car runs at about 185*. That normal? high? low?

Does that redline water weter stuff actually make a noticable difference?

What exactly does replacing the thermostat with a 160* one do? i understand that it supposedly makes your engine run cooler, but how so?

The thermostat will open ealier letting coolant circulate thru the engine earlier thus making it cooler. Only thing is that your fans will not turn on at appropriate times unless you get it programmed. With a 160 stat, I usually run at about 170-172 on the street.

I've never used it, but they claim that water wetter does work. Also, my engine temp usually sits between 180* and 195*. I can't remember at what exactly though, I just know it's right before the middle line

with the 160 stat it'll stay around 170 on highways but @ still traffic or stop and go's it will reach 190-210 (12 o clock on the guage) thats where the PCM programming or manual fan switch (about 30-40 bucks) come into play and help cool down your temp. hope that helps.
