I installed a 160* stat on a 2002 3.8L and drained and refilled the coolant. After a while the temp gauge will not read, and the fans will run all the time regardless of temp. A while after that, the SES light goes on. I had the code read and it was "Engine coolant Thermostat", once the code is cleared it goes back to normal. Instead of taking it to the shop, I've been disconnecting the battery to clear the code.
Has anyone had this problem with thermostats? If not, do you think the thermostat may be bad?
