  • Fuel pump replacement on 97 3.8

Ok guys, I need to replace the fuel pump in my 97 3.8 car. Book says to drop the axle, etc, which seems like alot of trouble, and I dont have the facilities for this. I have heard of people making an access hole to get to it. Any truth to this? Any advice or pics? Thanks in advance.

yup, access hole is the way to go. I did it on my 97 years ago when I went with a walbro pump. Screw dropping the axle. ha

What is the approximate location where you made the hole? Is there a spot thats marked? Just dont want to make alot of uneccessary cutting.

X2 , I have never dropped the tank to change the fuel pump, I cut mine back in 03'-04' and installed a walbro, then made a cover for it with dead mat turned out great. Also I would ditch the buckets and use clamps the hold everything together, much easier. just make sure all connections aare tight when you install it back in, becuasse my first attempt the hose fell off and my Fuel PSI dropped to 30 PSI while moving, and it was the hose pickup. Good luck Also cut alitttle more bt the connections drivers side toward the front, will make it easier to get the connectors off.
