    Re: whining noise

did you ever fix this. I am having a squeeling noise that gets worse when I hit the gas but it sounds like it is coming from the power steering area.

Acc drive belt. Probably needs changing anyway.

x2....mine was making a weird noise I couldn't pin down. It had a Gatorback belt on it that was on it when I bought it, and it looked fine, no cracks, but it seems to have a lot of play in. Swapped it out with a cheapie from Autozone and the car quieted down.

My car was whining like a little *****, I took off my belt cleaned it with fantastic and hot water. Dried it off, took brake cleaner to the pullies and the squeak is gone.

                Re: whining noise

I'll try cleaning the belt but it has been doing it ever since I have had this engine (I bought it used), so it was doing it with a new belt. I also changed the the belt tensioner and nothing changed.

I changed the power steering pump last night, but I have not tried starting it yet. I should be able to work on it more tonight, I'll post back.

take off the belt and spin things individually

Yep, it's your alternator. You could just rebuild it.

But it's easier and more cost effective to replace it. Will only take a few minutes.

I know this is not my thread, but for the record I replaced my power steering pump with another used one and my whining went away.

I had put in 3.73 gears on my V6 camaro about 2 years ago. I had vehicle parked in garge for a year and now I am driving it. Started to hear whining noise from rear. I took it to shop and they advised rear end problem. Rear end oil was dark with metal shavings.
Tech advised barings or rears bad.
