  • Engine Skip During rain

I've read the post for replacing plugs, wires and coil packs for engine skip. The 1997 v6 runs great during dry conditions. As soon as I pull into a car wash and the undercarriage wash starts, instantly it skips and runs very rough. To much snow outside to change the plugs or check for a problem. Just wondering what I should tell the mechanic to change first at the garage when I take it in. ??Plugs and wires??? Coilpacks?????? Are these expensive???? Should I replace everything at once???

you shouldnt have to tell him to replace anything. he should tell you what needs to be replaced. thats his job. if hes a good mechanic, hopefully he wont spend as much of you money as you would search for a problem.

yeah, it seems like the electricity for the spark plug is conducting somewhere else when theres water near it. I'm guessing theres a crack in the spark plug wires somewhere. Check the spark plug wires especially the part that is close to the manifold.

My last car had a crack in one of the spark plug wires and it did the same thing. One night I popped the hood while it was running bad, and actually saw the sparking. That made my diagnoses easy.
