    Re: Water Pump Install

I work in a machine shop at NASA in Housotn. We have been inviting engineers over for a couple of weeks at a time just so that they understnad how WE machine stuff. Some of the stuff they design is next to impossible to machine and after they leave they have a better understanding of how to design things. They CAN redesign stuff that works better and easier for us to machine which leads to cheaper (less expensive) parts for them to pay for.

      Re: Water Pump Install

Ok, so I managed to do the waterpump swap today. Heres the key info about the power steering pump not outlined in haynes or in any other 'how-to' i saw:

      1) 4 Bolts on the from of the steering pump braket-
1 beneath the lowest coil pack
1 behind the lowest coil pack (need to unbolt and move the lowest coil pack for this one)
1 right up front bolted into the waterpump itself
1 in the deep recess underneath the coil pack mounting bracket, left and down from the steering pump pulley

      2) 2 bolts behind the steering pump pulley are accessible via a standard box wrench, i dont think these actually need to come out, but I took them out before I noticed this. Leave these for last and only do if they actually need to be.

      3) 2 15mm nuts on a bracket mounted on the back side of the steering fluid reservoir. Second one of these is a mega ***** to get at, I managed to sneak in using an extension and coming in from underneath the exhaust manifold heat shield pointed toward the nose of the car. Had to move some wires out of the way as well.

Hope this info helps someone in the future.
