  • Ignition??? need help!!

    hey guys,
    I have a 96 rs with 119k on it and all of a sudden one day the car wouldnt start and they security light was steady on the dash. I disconected the negative battery termial and nothing happend, still wouldnt start, when i came home later on that night the car just started up fine. About a week or two later the same thing happened and this time after disconecting the battery it still wouldnt work, the battery is fine, its reading 840 cold cranking amps. i talked to a local mechanic who said it could be the computer inside the steering column that reads the keey or it could be the key. about two days later i went outside an attempted to start it and it started right up, i dont know what going on and i need some info of any sorts? how much will it cost to fix my unlucky ordeal? thanks guys

      same problem here, i thought i may have fried the computer because i had just hooked up a huge stereo system (1000watt sub-amp) and was bumping it, 5 minutes later on my way out of town for the weekend the car almost instantlly ran poorly then died, then wouldnt start, but would crank over i went out of town left it at my friends house come home on sunday started fine. 2 similar ocurances since then.

          is the little chip in your key loose?

          could be the starter kill too on the factory secuity doing it

            If it's the security system (aka VATS) it can be bypassed, try doing a search on that. Azrscamaro, you sound like you're having some other problem, could be your charging system is not strong enough for your new system. You might need to beef it up a little.

              I just had to say, viper, i checked out your car on car domain and that thing is clean your dash and intertior is different from mine i assume they changed it in 97.

                I completely removed the system and had the problem again a week later. I think it has to do with the alarm, security, also when i bought the car it had a kill switch, it has a switch and a button. is anyone framiliar with this setup.
