the only way you'll smell gas is if you have a leak ... which would need to be fixed anyway
if you search the forum you can find picture of both locations of the fuel pumps ...

Trap door FTW, no gas smell my dremel made some sparks and nothing and I made a deadmat door for it and taped it on. Really easy, make sure you cut more by the disconnect lines makes it easier.08' L76 6.0L 4X4 Chevy EXT.Cab LTZ Vortec MAX with Snug top cover, Dynomax exhaust,Hptuners& K&N intake
