I have a massive power steering leak i cant figure out if its leaking from the reservoir the hoses or the pump itsself. I went to autozone to check the price on them, they only stock the pump without reservoir, so i guess ill have to go to a dealer. Does anyone know of a similar problem or a way to test the hoses or reservoir or the pump for that matter, thank you very much

man I had a massive leak once, a hole bottle in like 5 mins. of driving and it ended up being a metal tube on the rack and pinion that was rubbing something and put a pin size hole in it and the pressure in the tube shot the fluid out and all over the place.http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/594989

last night i repaired it, just like you sayed once i got under it i wiped every thing down and found the leak, there was i pin hole leak in the high pressure hose, i rented a puller but didnt use it. i just removed the plastic cover from the steering shaft and squeezed in there, the bottom was 18mm, the top was 16mm. make sure you lube and put the o-rings on the new one. it feels like i have air in there or the steering is less responsive, does anyone know why. maybe i screweed the pump or something else up. thx96 RS dark green, 1st drag race ever 8/6/04 r/t .126, 1/4..16.142, mph..83.65, home made 3\" exhaust(ill post pics soon)turbo muffler, home made CAI
http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/666045

I had my whole PS pump crack a couple of days ago, it leaked like crazy, there was so much smoke from the burn off it looked like my car was on fire. I went to the mechanic, it cost $200 to repair which wasnt that bad but im smelling the fumes and its still smoking 3 days later from the 2 bottles of PS fluid I put in it that pretty much went right thru it.Check my 01 vert firebird at http://www.cardomain.com/member_pages/view_page.pl?page_id=376416

You can check and make sure the o-rings seated properly. If there was air in the system, it would eventually work its way out I would think if everything was put back correctly. ( By the way, I work at Honeywell Engines & Systems next to the airport, in the Gear manufacturing center as a maintenance mechanic.)95 convertible 3.8 series II
