my camaro is a 3.8 with auto trans for a few months now it has been throwing a code p1870 it comes up as manufacturer transmission component slipping i havent had the time or the money to go to the dealer. A guy at autozone was telling me that the dealership has to tell you what the problem is. he says there was a big lawsuit and gm got sued for trying to hide these codes and overcharged people who have to come in and get it checked. does anyone know anything about this. if so please give the name of the lawsuit so i can research it

When I changed the tranny oil and filter, I found that the bolts to the valve body were so loose that there was only a couple of turns left before they were going to fall out. Just one more reason why I do my own work, as a in and out place most likey would not have even noticed it. I'm just naturally inclined to check that everything is tight.

As far as changing the the tranny fluid, two tranny shops told me not to, that there was so much metal in the fluid that without it the tranny would perform even worse. ive been hesitant to find out.96 RS dark green, 1st drag race ever 8/6/04 r/t .126, 1/4..16.142, mph..83.65, home made 3\" exhaust(ill post pics soon)turbo muffler, home made CAI
http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/666045

What you don't want to do is a transmission flush. You will see it advertised in the local oil change, ac check kind of ads. Our trannys will get damaged if you do this. It really isn't any harder than changing your engine oil. Just jack the car up, remove all of the bolts except for one side and let the fluid drain out, then drop the pan, remove the filter and put the new one in. I don't know why anyone would tell you to leave fluid with metal in it. Where do they find these guys?95 convertible 3.8 series II
