  • ??? about 98 FireBird under hood parts

Hi, I'm new to this forum, and hope I'm posting in the proper board.

I have a 98 FireBird with V6 (3800) and 5speed. it was recently stolen and the thieves tried to pull the engine, which we all know is a bit of a challenge, and gave up. but not before they cut all the hoses and removed the radiator, A/C condenser, trans crossmember, and driveshaft. All of which are now gone.

I would like to buy a parts/wrecked FireBird to put mine back together, but am unsure if it has to be 98 or newer, or if all the hoses, and other parts from an older car (3800 V6) will work. I know most of the older cars body parts are different, but my body is in REALLY, REALLY nice condition.

maybe Camaro parts? I would also consider a V8 car if all the parts (including engine w/wiring harness) bolted right in.

    Thnx for any info,
    Jim - Tin-Indian

everything should work as long as it is 95+ and a 3.8 engine

the only real difference between the 97 and below 3.8's is how the airbox was mounted

camaro parts should also work fine, other than the body panels, and some of the interior.

all of the parts you listed are very easy to come buy used, and you can probably buy them off forum members for cheap

odd that someone would want to steal these engines...they are a dime a dozen...as stated most parts should bolt up, the engines were the same, so you could always make the parts work anyways...

...better yet just start cutting them off and stop when you realize you're not a doctor haha.

I have a lot of the parts you need from my '98 Bird, let me know if you're interested. It's an auto though, not sure if it uses the same tranny crossmember.

Yea, it does suck. Right now I'm trying to sell the car as-is, but the couple of nibbles that I've had are bothered by the fact that the engine can't be started. It was my daughters car and I already bought a car to replace this one. I just want to sell it without compleatly losing my arse (I'm already going to, it's got a new engine, clutch, A/C compressor, right before the car was stolen)

:( This makes me sad. A ton of new parts can be found at rockauto.com for usually some very decent prices. That's where I go for stock parts usually.

Tin-Indian, did insurance not cover any of this?

Keep in mind that 98 and under use cable driven throttle bodies with angled TB, 99+ use DBW and have straight intakes.

No insurance on the car....... Well, not full-coverage. My daughter quit her job to concentrate on school and dropped the insurance down to liability.

Thanx for the info on the throttle bodies, does that effect anything other than the way the airbox would mount? I don't think the throttle cable was cut, but I'll have to check when I get home, but if the parts car that I end up finding is DBW would every thing else work?

I'm pretty sure it should. I have a 98 and a 02 and the only difference I've seen/noticed is the throttle body.
