  • Blower fans not turning on?

My car's at 88,000 miles right now and had a new engine put in at 72,000. I've had a problem with my air conditioner, from what I remember, ever since the engine was replaced where the air coming out of it is no longer cold. When I turn the heater on it blows out hot air just fine, but when I turn it all the way down to the coldest setting on A/C or Max A/C it gets no cooler than just about regular room temperature. I tried recharging the A/C system with refrigerant, but that didn't make any difference. When I started looking around on the car I noticed that the two fans behind the radiator weren't turning on when I turned the A/C on or even under regular idle like it normally did (before the new engine for sure). Could this be a cause of the air conditioner not blowing out cold air? Also, what could be wrong with the fans to keep them from running and what would be some recommended solutions to getting them running again? I was not able to check to see if the fans were running while I was driving for obvious reasons. The thermostat also showed the temperature to be in the normal range (210 I think?... not next to the car right now).

Like I said, all this seemed to start happening when the engine was replaced.

I honestly don't know how to tell (I know a little bit about cars, but I don't know even close enough yet)... how do I find that out?

If you are facing the engine, the compressor is on the left at the bottom, next to the crank pulley. When it is not running, you will see that the belt is moving, but the front of the pulley (the clutch part) is stationary. When you turn on the AC that part that is stationary should start spinning. If it is not, make sure that the connector is plugged in.

I cant beleve you have had to replace the engine at only 72K, they should last 200k+ Anyways..Im sure someone didnt hook something back up, or its out of freon and off on low pressure saftey switch. Look around and see if you see any loose wires hanging around.

Okay, I went to Auto Zone and the guy there came out and took a look at my car and apparantly my coolant/intake sensor and the high pressure/low pressure A/C switch/sensor was bad. They didn't have either sensor in stock so I went to another auto store and was only able to get the coolant/intake sensor... I'm going to switch it out tonight and I'll let yall know if that fixes the problem with the fans turning on.

Oh yeah, and the compressor was not turning on...

Replaced the coolant/intake sensor and still no activity from the fans after a half hour of idling (and some low rpm revving). The guy at Auto Zone disconnected the sensor and had me start the car when I was there and the fans kicked on immediately... that's why he said the sensor needed to be replaced... any other suggestions?

BTW, compressor is running... I was just blind (still no cold air though).

is the car overheating? wrose comes to worse you can always install a manual fan switch.
