Just what the topic says... Under light to mid throttle I'm getting a vibrating / metal rattling sound coming from the back of the car. I also have had an SES on for a long time for a Vacuum Leak in the gas tank and the rear axel has been removed atleast twice in attempt to fix it but to no avail. Whats causing this rattling sound? possibly a loose fuel pump? is my rear axel going out?? what could this be?

Re: Loud metalic rattling/vibrating noise coming from rear under light/mid throttle.
Is the noise when you are parked/neutral or is it when driving or both? Do you have the single in dual out exhaust (ie. flowmaster 80 series?) The inlet pipe into the exhaust may be banging on the exhaust pipe out of the muffler next to it (they often touch.) I had mine welded together so they wouldn't rattle. Try lightly banging with a rubber mallet or your first and see if something rattles. Hard to say without hearing it. I've never heard a fuel pump rattle. I've heard them whine and squeal before.sigpic

Yea so you have the dual outlet exhaust, check to see its not banging on the inlet. When mine did that it was at idle or low throttle. Worth a shot. Try banging on the outlet next to the inlet and see if u hear a rattle.sigpic

Check the exhaust for some loose clamps or broken welds. Mine keeps breaking between the S-pipe and I-pipe and causes a terrible rattle up to about 1500rpms.'99 Camaro
