Is there anything I have to take off the engine to change the spark plugs on the 3.4. I just can't seem to catch the first 2 plugs on the driver's side. I got the one on the back of the engine just fine. Any suggestions?

Re: Help 3.4
i wish i could help you with tips on that. i had a 94 3.4 5 speed and it was tough for me also. i got fed up and finally took it somewhere.
so far i have had 3 3.8 v6 5 speeds since then and they seem a little easier to work on. dunno if thats really true. just my 2 cents. good luck bro.

Re: Help 3.4
Thanks man. At least someone replied lol. Yeah I bought a 2000 bird as a prject car a while back and it didn't take no time to change the plugs on that thing. I looked at the passenger side of the 3.4 and the EGR seems like it's gonna be rough to get around...oh and I broke a plug wire trying to get one of them off today lol. Had to go buy a replacement. Maybe I'm just not saying the right curse words.

Re: Help 3.4
ya i know what your saying about breaking the wires. i sold my 94 to a buddy and he took it to one of his "backyard mechanic" buddies. snapped one of the plugs in the head. then had to have it drilled out. never seemed to really run the same. sadly i sold it to him under the impression that he was going to really take care of it. it was always waxed and clean. he just ran the piss outta her.
he then sold her for $800 few months later she was back on craigslist for $1400 with all the mods i did as "new" mods that the current owner put on. lol i called him and asked about the mods. i asked for receipts and of course he couldnt produce. sad really i wish i had kept her. my first love!

Re: Help 3.4
haha ouch, that's got to hurt. I love my 93, but I think the only reason I'll ever part with her is to give her to my neice when she can drive. Hopefully, I won't have to lol. It's been a great car, payed 4000 for it when I was 16, I'm almost 22 now and it's never gave me trouble. It's been a hell of a car.

Re: Help 3.4
The 3.8 is a lot more harder to change than the 3.4. Am I right? Hardly any room for your hands and socket because of the block being 90*
I'm guessing the config. of the 3.4 is the same as my 2.8. In that case you may need to go underneath your car and try pulling it out from there. It's the same way too for the 3.8. You can only pull 2 plugs on top and the other 4 on the bottom.
Use this type of plug socket:
And use an open ended wrench on that socket to turn it.

Re: Help 3.4
3.4 is easy. I use a cheapo socket that has the rubber insert in it and a 3' swivel extention. Plug wires are a different story. I get the lifetime ones from Auto Zone b/c they always break and I get a new set for free.

Re: Help 3.4
yeah 3.4's aren't too bad at all.
you can remove the EGR on the pass. side and that will help out to get those two that are kind of blocked by it. Just two 10mm bolts holding it down.
maybe something is obstructing your plug from being contacted with the walls of the spark plug socket? see if you can take a flash light and look.
