    Re: Smell burning coolant

On the pic with the high quality arrows I drew to where the pipe is you will actually have to reach underneath the intake that sticks out to feel this pipe.

Replacement requires removing the alternator, detaching the heater hoses that pop onto the piece that the alternator mounts to and removing the bolts holding that assembly on. BE CAREFUL with the heater hoses, if you damage them it's a dealer only replacement part. I think those heater hoses cost me about $140 years ago.

    Good luck

One last thing - I never had any puddles either when this pipe was leaking. The coolant simply burned off as I drove.

Honestly I hate this part. It makes no sense to me why they would use plastic... Then again, I am just a printmaker who works on his own car, not a car design engineer. It's tough to see, but fairly quick to fix.

I keep an extra in my car at all times. It seems to go out on me at least 1 a year.

Good luck and let me know what you find.

yay I found a small puddle . It looks like it's leaking behind that skid plate looking thing under the car. Also I saw a rainbow color mixed with the coolant. The coolant looked pink though

Edit : what could leak coolant in that area ?

                Re: Smell burning coolant

By skid plate, I assume you mean the cross member that is directly in front of where the oil pan is.

Thats a tough one, fluid can leak down and collect there on that cross member... Maybe your waterpump, I really don't know.

I would say fill your coolant and check all your hoses while the car is running. Could be coming from the weep hole in the back of your water pump, that would be another inexpensive fix.

Do you have yellowish brown foam/sludge stuff in your oil fill neck? I guess there is a chance it could be those damn intake gaskets.

I can't think of anything else that has leaked on mine.

remove all the bolts that hold on the front cover, and there are like 4 that hold on the oil pan to the front cover aswell. its a fairly simple but somewhat time consuming process. are you sure its your front cover and not the water pump gasket?

One hundred percent sure because I took it to the shop and they said it was that and they checked the water pump .

aight, well its like 9 bolts, you have to remove the harmonic balancer, and then the crank position sensor, the cam sensor, and the maybe something else. then remove the bolts that hold the oil pan at the bottom. and all the water stuff as well.

                            Re: Smell burning coolant

I had to pull my timing cover this past summer for an unrelated matter... The toughest part was getting that damn harmonic balancer off. We didn't necessarily do it the right way but it worked.

The kit you can get from Autozone has all gaskets you need to do the job. If I am not mistaken I had to pack my oil pump with Starting fluid/grease or something like that... It was so that the oil pump would be primed the first time you start it after the job. Look into it, I cannot remember all the details.

I will say this - you can probably expect an oil leak after pulling your front timing cover unless you replace your oil pan gasket as well. A small portion of that oil pan bolts up to the timing cover. I tried to cheat on mine and just add some gasket sealer to that part of the oil pan gasket, but mine leaked anyhow. Not too bad on mine though, waiting for warm weather to tackle the oil pan gasket.

So i was talking with my friend and he said that the timing gasket does not leak coolant is this true ?

Here are some pics from mine, I drew arrows where the coolant comes in for the water pump. I personally have never heard of it being an issue of coolant leaking from this location, but that doesn't mean it doesn't happen.
