  • machine shop prices?

will be starting my build shortly. I have a michine shop in mind and they do great work, just have to find some time to talk prices and stuff with them.

im having them clean the block, hone the cylinders, deck it, and install my pistons and crank.

How much $$ am i looking at?

im buying all the parts. main and cam bearings pistons rings ect.

    Thanks!

vat clean the block is probably gonna be around 75, hone is another 50, short blocking it is probably about 200 maybe more.

I had the shop that the dealership i worked for do my engine, and i spent about 400, but i had them do some head work, and they cut me a super deal.

wow thats not bad. im not p&p'ing the heads but i am putting new springs and seals, but im doing that myself. so 400ish for putting the shortblock together isnt a bad deal. i just dont wanna have any weak links with this engine and want it done right. thanks for the info!

also. do you know where i can get a rebuild kit? and our bore is 3.800 correct? so these http://www.summitracing.com/parts/STL-H522CP/ will be like stock pistons? sorry for the dumb questions, just not TOO familiar with the internals of these engines yet lol

Those aren't gonna be 3800 Series 2 Pistons. NONE of the Series 1 stuff works for our engines. You can try to call Summit to verify, however I doubt they are going to have an answer for this one.

Pending inspection of the block, you may be able to just rehone it. Otherwise your going to have to bore and go back with oversized pistons. I had my block vatted, bored, honed, decked, magnafluxed, cam bearings installed, polished crank, rebalanced crank and flywheel, replaced freeze plugs, and filed the rings. This cost me just over $800 unassembled. Another machine shop wanted around $900 to assemble the block with no machining. I'm not sure if they were just overpriced or simply didnt want my business.
