  • Great gas mileage 25-26mpg

Finally got a good count on my gas mileage, A4, 36LB injectors, VS cam ,9:5.1 forged pistons, 3.73 gears, torsen diff, alot of weight reduction, weighs about 2800-2900LBs with out me in it, alittle over 3000lBs with me in it. City driving and doing about 50-60MPH half of the time, I got 25-26 MPG this last gas tank. I think thats pretty good for a 14 year old beater. LOL

so 50% city 50% highway? Or city, I dont think doing 60 is considered city driving. I think city is 30mph, stop, 10mph stop...just stop and go at low speeds. None the less thats pretty awesome.

City for me is around 25-45mph, and then when getting out on the open roads 2 lanes , not alot of traffic 50-60mph. I haven't been taking the highway alot but when I do its 75MPH speed limit, which I do either 75-85MPH , but on this tank I didn't have any highway miles. Weight reduction is too much to list , would have to check my cardomain site or I'll see if I have it listed somewhere. Here is some:

        Tubular K member, tubular upper/lower A arms
        QA-1 front/rear shocks and springs
        light weight battery 8LBS
fiberglass SS hood & SS spoiler
        rear seat delete/w fill ins
prostar light weight rims on the front and some DR's in back
Also headers over the cast iron manifolds
        Alm. driveshaft
exhuast dumped before the rear axle
        front bumper support removed
        windsheild res. removed
        EGR/EVAP removed
        32mm hollow front sway
        BMR Chromoly LCAs & Panhardrod
        Lightweight carpet
Spearco front light weight seats & mounting brackets
UMI Tunnel mount TQ arm( wieght & misc items removed off the tail of driveshaft)
Heat sheilds and plastic underneath parts removed
Misc. parts removed along with metal pieces cut off the body and interior, will be removing rear bumper support, air bags and new steering wheel.
I think that is about it, will be addding a turbo here soon(about 1 month), so I hope it runs pretty decent.

ohh this is without turbo? Gotchya. Thats still good mileage, have an approx weight of your car? I know my cars a pig. stock 16x8s, amp, subwoofer, audio, backpack, other random stuff in car, heavy duty matts, roadside kit for winter. STB, SFCs, all additional weight haha, I need to lighten the load.

There was another member on the other site that had some of the light weight mods and his was 2850LBS. But I will take the passenger seat, rear fill ins, and the stereo out when I go to the track so guessing would be 2800lbs race weight and with me and everything else in it DD it 3000lbs to 3100lbs max I would think.(since I weigh 270LBS. Meatyshells had his weighed and it was like 3150lBs I think it was with just his spare tire , jack and back seats out, and still had his 10" sub and amp and passenger seat in it. It would be nice if it weighed 27XX then I could race it and be around 3000LBS. The turbo with intercooler, pipes, 1.5 gallon methanol injection kit and turbo is about 60LBS.

Nice, Steve. Especially with the kind of mods you have and that 3.73 gear.

Are you babying the gas pedal?

I can get that much if I keep the rpm within the 1.5-2.3 range.

Not too much , it only takes about a 1/4 pedal to get it moving pretty good and about half way to pick up and pass someone. I tried to keep it from WOT most of the time, becuase I was always just flooring it, and I was getting 18 MPG., plus I through another tune on it which is just about perfect, +1 long fuel trims at idle and -2 at crusing and WOT. Made a big difference. I pretty much tried to keep it below 3000 RPMS most the time, but did get on it a few times.LOL

                    Re: Great gas mileage 25-26mpg

I just took a long trip and my mileage sucked at 23.5 MPG. I was steadily cruising at 75 the whole way. I hope it's the winter gas. I get that mileage in the summer when I'm doing 85-90 the whole way. If this is because of the winter gas, it's absurd. I don't think the morons at the EPA realize that using MORE gas negates the lower pollution from the winterized gas, and on top of that we're all using more oil.

I also run RP oil in everything except the trans, I run Valvoline dexron VI syntheic. I think keeping from going WOT alot makes a big difference.

I would of had RP in the tranny , but one of my lines broke and all the tranny fluid was running out, so my wife had to go to checker and they only had Valvoline Dexron VI syntheic, but I do have a case of RP trans fluid to go in when its time to change it out. But the Dexron VI syntheic seems to be doing very well.
