  • convertible top rear window

    Hey guys,
I have had my 1997 camaro rs convertible for almost a year now, but I'm new to this forum. Yesterday the rear window on my convertible top fell out. I talked to people at upholstery shops that have tried sealing it back in before and they said it was impossible... Do you guys have any ideas on how to seal it back in?
    Thanks,
    Steve

There's a rubberized strip along the cloth that looks like it was glued to. I can't get anything to stick(and hold for awhile) to it. Is there some special glue it needs?

Stop at the Chevy dealer and ask the parts department if they have the adhesive. If not, they probably farm out all the convertible top work to a local custom shop. Ask who that is and go check them out.

If that doesn't pan out, use contact adhesive. Clean out the old adhesive with acetone (check its affect on the rubber first to be sure it doesn't melt or distort it). Then apply the contact adhesive as per instructions, let dry and install window. Be accurate in your assembly, once contact adhesive makes contact, it generally does not come apart.

plastic... all 4th gen verts came factory with a glass window. yours must be after market, both my 96 and 95 have glass.

btw once the window comes lose it's time for a new top, or you can just replace the back section, since it's a 2 piece top.

There's no way to seal it back in? and if not, do you know about how much it would cost to replace the section?
