I have been smelling antifreeze from time to time, but have not been able to find a leak, or even drips on the garage floor.
The odor usually would happen after starting the car hot. It didn't happen when started cold.
Tonight I noticed a small dry antifreez stain on the tensioner housing where the heater hose connects. I have read that these push on connectors are a poor design and was wondering if the connectors are the source of my antfreeze odors. So I looked up heater hoses in SI and it appears that they just push on with a twisting action.
Went out and grabbed the connectors and pushed them on hard. The car has not had an antifreeze odor since.
Is there is a permanent fix for these poorly designed hose connectors?
