I used a 1/2" ratchet, about 3' of extension and a swivel socket.

A swivel and a LONG extension will be your best friend. Also some PB Blaster.

get some good quality extensions, you cant use cheap ones because they will twist and not take the bolt out, i recommend using 1/2" stuff

you need the same exact tools to remove the engine from the top and the bottom, and the bottom is way easier but since you are removing the transmission it proably wouldnt be too hard to remove it from the top.

Agreed, air impact wrench and looong extensions with a swivel. Transmissions aren't torqued very tight, because of the castings, so all you really need is impacts to break them free.

DO NOT RECOMMEND NAPA EXTENSIONS!! Had one split in my hand and split my hand through a 1/4" of meaty not awesomeness.

you need a 1/2 extention about 3 feet long. that bolt is easier to get from under the car from my experience. If your pulling the motor, why not pull the tranny with it? thats what i did and i pulled it out the top and just unbolted the tranny while it was out.

Is it possible to remove the motor with the tranny attach to it.

from the bottom it is no problem, getting it through the top will be a battle but its possible

                          Re: removing bellhousing bolt

if your working with that car on the ground i felt it was safer pulling both from the top at the same time versus other routes i have read about, when i pull the motor and trans from my 2000 camaro a few months ago i took the hood off and had a friend pull down on the tail housing so the oil pan clear the steering rack, after that it was simply jacking the motor and trans out while pulling back on the cherry picker. now if you don't feel safe doing that then get the extention and lay the tranny on the floor before pulling the motor
