  • Possible Fuel Pump Problems?

    Here are the symptoms:
Takes extra long to start. I makes the ERRRRRRRR. Noise but wont turn over for 7-8 seconds.
Starts faster when pumping gas pedal.
A high pitched whine from the rear of the car at idle.

My guess it is the fuel pump, but I need some more info. What tool do I need to pick up to test the fuel pressure? Is the pump in the tank or outside like in a 3rd gen? Where is the fuel filter?

What experiance do you guys have with these types of symptoms?

I had the same problem about four or five months ago. The pressing on the gas pedal really shouldn't make a difference, but you might want to take it to a shop and have them run the pressure tests on your pump to check and see, cause its a pain to do yourself. It ended up that it just wasn't keeping pressure in the lines, and the pressure regulator and the pump are one assembly. I noticed mine got worse the empty-er my tank was.

The pump is inside the tank. Also, if you end up having to buy a new pump assembly, go to GMPartsDirect.com, much cheaper than anywhere else
