  • Cleaning fuel injectors

In the process of removing my upper intake manifold, I had to take off the fuel rail, in the process exposing the injectors.

I was wondering if there's a good way to clean them once they're exposed. If I force something through the lines, will it force it through the injectors? Any damage risk? I thought about replacing them outright, but that'd run $50 a pop.

Well I know the NAPA here cleans the injectors with pressure for about $20 each. you could probably do it yourself if you wanted.

If they were working right when you took them off, then I wouldn't mess with them , just let them sit in sea foam while you do the swap and just reinstall them back when your done. If you run fuel injector cleaner or sea foam in your gas about every oil change in your gas tank your injectors should be fine. Also when you go to reinstall them spay some deep creep at the ends to make sure there is nothing in them and use some oil on the injector seals or vasoline so they go in easier. If you want you can OHM check them to see which is low and which is high i always install the high one in #1 cly. should see them from 14+ ohms.

Not sure how much time you have, or if you want to put the $$$ into them, but Witchhunter Performance has a great reputation in the racing community. They did the injectors on my 240SX race car, cleaned, flow tested (send you the results) and replace the screens & o-rings for $19/each. If you don't want to pay a pro to clean them I wouldn't do anything, other than a good visual inspection. As noted, also make sure to put some oil or grease on the o-rings when you re-install them.
