I have a 94 3.4 bird and it has a backfire issue, it isnt consistence like it popping every few seconds but when i go to give it power it will pop like crazy and when it gets up to 50 60 it starts to run rough, now i have a fresh tune up on it and a new egr valve. what are some other things it can be? my buddy and i thought it might be the timing but we are leaning away from that since its not consistent. i also made sure i have good gas and put some good injector cleaner
my next question is how do i run the diagnostic on it? i have the little key thing but when i put it in, it doesnt do anything?
i doubt it is the timing also, the timing is all computer controlled, and would take either a reprogram of the ecm, or a skipped timing chain to change it.
check your spark plugs to see if they are firing, and also check the plug wires, one may have become burnt, or a bad coil.
since you just got a tune up, my guess is a plug is not firing, and the gas is burning from the hot exhaust.
Maybe a stuck or sticking injector, no codes showing up? Do you have a scanner?
