  • "Service Engine Soon" light on...

    Ok,
Now, before any of you guys tell me "Take it to a shop to get the engine checked", I have done that three times and have been told that the engine is perfectly fine. This is the problem:

When I turn the car on, the "Service Engine Soon" light does not go on. The light seems to turn on when I am driving in the highway. Usually, I am driving about 65+ mph and when I begin to start using my breaks to slow down a bit, the "Service Engine Soon" light turns on. It usually turns on when my speedometer reaches 60mph. Does anyone have any clue why this happens? Your feedback will be much appreaciated.

find someone that has a scanner and you can find out what code is turning that light on.

Or you can go to a auto part store and buy an OBD-II scanner (or OBD-I if you have a 1995 (I think) or older car)

yeah, the point of taking it to a shop is to do what 99 says, The idea is that the light just doesnt come and and mean the engine needs to be looked at. It means that a certain code had been triggered by the computer, that code stays in memory until the light is shut off. You need to go somewhere that they wont just take the car in teh back and shut it off and charge you. Go somewhere they will show u the scanner and the code and what the scanner says.

I agree with Takumi Fujiwara. Even if the light shuts off the dealer especially can pull the last time the service engine light was triggered and will tell you the code and will continue to do so until you reset the computer.
