My DRL bulb burned out, so as I replace it (PITA) I notice that apparantly the bulb damn near blew up. The bulb housing was black & the contact part of the bulb had melted into the part you put the bulb in. The top outside portion of that was black as well. I replaced the bulb & alls well.
Yeah, it's like that cuz it gets purdy hot. Did you put bulb grease on it? It helps to remove it next time and helps dissipate the heat a little.

No sir I did not. I didn't know there was such a thing. I'm really hoping that my other one doesn't blow anytime soon. It amazed me how much trouble was involved just to change a bulb.
Did you go at it from the top?? I tried that when my car was newer and it was cake, but now I can't with the aftermarket parking light casing because they warp. So I get under the car. Still a PITA, but I can put more force to turn it. My sockets are blackened and the bulb contacts are blackened too.
If you go to an autoparts store, you'll find bulb grease for like 99¢ or so. I put a lot on it, so its helps with the heat a bit.

I tried from the top, but since I was not familiar with the exact location of the bulb I decided to go from underneath. Even then, I couldn't see very well, I felt like I was gonna break something when I turned the housing. But, now that I know what & where, I just may grease her up one day if I'm feeling frisky. :D
