  • octane v.s. plugs

    i was wondering...........
since our cars need only 87 octane.......
in my country they only serve 93 or 95 octane
our cars are 9:0.1 compression, so i guess a bit goes unburned, and since i never overhauld my engine, i guess the compression ratio should be a little lower. and since i removed my cat and put a flowmaster, i guess the the flow leaves my cumbostion chamber too early leaving a part of the fuel unburned (I SEE A SLIGHT BLACK SMOKE) ( correct me if im wrong)

SO MY QUESTION IS :::: CAN I USE A HOTTER PLUG FOR OUR HIGH OCTANE FUEL?? MAYBE IT CAN BURN IT MORE EFFECTIVLY,, BUT I HAVE MSD COILS AND WIRES AND I CHECKED 3 OF THE PLUGS TODAY AND THEY WERE NICE BROWN COLOR,, NO SINGS OF RICHNISS

    HELP

Octane levels do not alter your a/f mixture, as far as less compression due to a older motor not always so most of the time as long as rings are good u will have more compression due to carbon build up on top of piston. Yes u can go 1 stage hotter to burn more effectivly. another possibility is a leaking injector a faulty fuel pressure regulator. plugs dont always show richness.

      umm

you could get a DIS 4, my 3800 with no turbo would barly run because it was so rich, after the DIS-4 it runs ALOT stronger and it doesn't get misfires from no ware any more

well, there's a LOT of misinformation in this thread...

        our compression ratio is 9.4:1.
Yes our cars say 87 octane, but an LS1 can also take 87 octane. Using the autotap program, at WOT i would get almost 7* KR using 87, about 3* using 89, and next to nothing using 93.
Is KR a bad thing? Not for daily driving purposes. KR merely retards timing to prevent detonation, or knock. Are you getting the full potential? no. Is it safe, yes.
