This might be a noobish question, but I haven't been able to find the answer anywhere-- What kind of dipstick should I be getting for my 1999 Firebird (3.8, Automatic, etc., etc.)?

Advanced Auto Parts lists this one: http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/web..._A|GRP2037____

Which is a universal dipstick. However, is that the right length? I have to ask because the one that's been in mine since I got it (7 years ago or so) is all bent up and twisted, so I've never been able to get a good oil reading from it.

    Thanks in advance!

    it supposed to be twisted

Oh, now I feel stupid. The way it was twisted, I figured that it was a mistake (bought the car...VERY wrecked).

Still, though, it's twisted unevenly (is that correct?), so it makes it hard to get a reading on how much oil I have.

The part that has the marks where the oil level shows should not be twisted

I got my 3.8 camaro brand new on June 1999. If the Firebird's stick is the same one than the Camaro's, there's nothing to be concerned. It'll be helpful if you post a pic.

            can you post a picture?

the dipstick is pretty crazy looking and is sometimes hard to get out due to the twists

Just go to the dealer and get one. They are cheap. Less than $5.

You may want to say "compare one." He doesn't have to buy one if he's not sure if his is OK.
