I have a 96 and was wondering where EXACTLY are each of the plugs. Some people say underneath and some say to the side. Also, is a socket extension and a spark plug padded socket necessary?

I remember the ol' days when I changed plugs with those crappy manifolds and heat shields blocking my work.

With my headers and an SLP spark socket, I can change plugs now in about 6 minutes.

Save yourselves a lot of pain and wait for the engine to completely cool before attempting any work. Those iron exhaust manifolds hold heat for hours.

with my headers, the hardest part is getting the the wires off the plugs.

I don't have headers and that's the hardest part for me.

I found that replacing the body w/a third gen resulted in exceptional clearance.

Don't forget to goop up the plug boots w/dielectric grease so they wont cook to the plug.

Yep. Don't forget to use anti-seize on the plug threads and dielectric grease on the inside of the wire boots..

                  I used:
                  a 6" wobble extension
                  a 10" extension
                  a u-joint attachment
                  my 3/8th rachet
a spark plug wire removal tool.
and of course a spark plug socket.

EDIT: Dont forget your mechanics gloves too!

You wont always need all of these tools for each plug, the front ones usually you only need the 6".

On the passenger side, (I'm not left handed) it helped me to hop up and sit on the battery, facing forward. Then you can lean back and reach your left arm down to get to the plugs. It's really not that hard, it took me about 40 minutes during my lunch break the first time. I changed the plugs on my V6 Beretta about six times over the six years I had it, and even the last time it took me about three hours. I'll do a Camaro over that car any day of the week. I can do my Volkswagen in about 2 minutes. Seriously. ;)

                  Good luck.
