Hey guys. I'm supposed to be at a car meet on sunday. I'm trying to install a fuel pressure gauge before hand. It's a 1/8 NTP fitting (male) on the gauge and the car has a -4 AN fitting on the schrader valve What brass adapter(s) do I need and where can I find it tomorrow in town (Houston).
The reason this is urgent is because I lost my needle somewhere from the schrader valve. So I can't drive my project car (camaro) without it.
Hey guys. Thanks for all the input. For now I found some valve cores or w/e they're called at walmart so I can get to the meet tomorrow morning. On monday I'm going to check out some local shops that are Metco distributors and if that fails I'll order from Metco or Summit directly.
It was actually leaking out of the NPT part of the fitting and the cap. I really dont think there was any way to torque it more without breaking anything. I even tried using wrenches instead of my hands to make a seal, no go. I felt I would strip or break the part.
I did end up using tape on the cap and the NPT fitting and the leak is no more. I was really careful to only have tape on the thread and not go all the way to the top. I've always used tape (for plumbing) as a sort of lube to properly torque and fit everything on. I thought as long as I didn't use too much and did not go all the way up the thread I would not have a problem, teflon tape isn't supposed to react with fuel right? So clogging is the main issue. I'll find some liquid/paste sealant tomorrow if you think I did the wrong thing here. I really don't see a way to just torque it down without any sealant/lube and have a proper fit.
The threads of a flare do nothing to seal, the flare is the seal. The tape is a no no on fuel systems because if a piece of it gets into something..... anything an injector, regulator.... it can cause it to clog or stick open. And the tape shreds as you tighten the threads. They make liquid/paste Teflon.

Yea sounds like I'm going to be making a trip to the parts store to pick up some liquid seal. Maybe the cap wasn't really leaking I'm not sure, but the NPT thread definitely was. It's possible the NPT thread where the sending unit connects was leaking so hard that it looked like the cap was leaking too (it was fizzing, spraying etc.. when priming). I'll try sealing just the NPT tomorrow.
Thanks for the help :).
The walbro seems to be working well. Holding 50psi at idle, 48 at coast/decel and a solid 55 at wot. The gauge has been installed into a pod and cleaned up real nice. I have an OCD for hiding wire and hard wiring everything (gps, valentine 1, etc..)
