Honestly, it does sound like the ignition system and not the oiling system.

Just make sure that all of the wires are on the right cyliders and right coils. Replace the coils, wires and plugs and you should be fine. If those don't fix it, it COULD be your ignition control module which is what the coils bolt to.

how do you test the coils, my friend doesnt have the $$ to buy new ones
i have a spark tester, should I just hook it up to each wire and make sure it puts out like 35,000 volts?

what about vacuum leaks or things messing up like that. how do I check for those problems and other problems that have to do with vacuum lines?

I agree with what has been said already. I would do a full tune up the correct way plus replace the coils I think that they are like 15 bucks each at autozone. if that does not solve it break the exhaust loose in front of the cat and make shure it is not a blocked cat ( I don't think this is it, but you never know)

uhh ohh might have a internal problem. Is it making any solid noises, like a clanking or just running like crap.

Also double check the wires are hooked up right, but the one time I ever crossed wires on my 3.4L the thing woudl not start.

I also woudl check out the exhaust. See if its kinked or bent. And if you can, unhook the cat from the I-pipe and make sure he did hollow it.

Reason why I am guessing that is sounds like you mentined the EGR, burning and melting, maybe the exhaust is clogged up.

If you can unhook the cat back, see if it the cat is clogged or not then try and fire it up like that.

ill definitely check the exhaust and where is this egr valve located and how much does it cost new?

mustangeater, do you have any clue what that exhaust to intake thing is? its on the pass side of car looking from the front. it has a tube that goes to the intake and bolts onto and over the exhaust manifold.

plugs, wires, check coils, check exhaust, check oil psi, make sure everything is hooked up correctly,(then hook it up to diag computer) change alt, check ignitions control modual, check o2s, .......what else

holy crap do I have a task when I get home, better get tools and brib some buddies(all f-body owners)

                        that is the EGR...

Look at this pic, the Orange bungee cord is wrapped around the EGR.

(yeah i know its ghetto but it shut off the SES light without having to pull the passenger side exhaust manifold to drill out a broken bolt)

Same bungee cord has bee like that for over a year now keeping the SES light off

                          </font>
YEs that is it. for some reason the thing got so hot the bottom of those black things were melting, and it fried one or two plug wires.

do you think its the fact that the feul is burning in the manifold and not the engine that is making it get that hot???? the engine isnt overheating, its like at 170 ish.

how much would one of those things cost, and what would make that thing go bad?

Don't worry about your EGR... Actually maybe upplug it. The car won't run "perfect" with it messed up. But it will run for the most part normal.

I had my egr and plug wires go bad at the same time and put a new EGR on and it ran better but popped in the higher rpm then i put plug wires on it fixed everything. Dont buy the egr new it will cost you almost 200 bucks if not more. Get it used or on ebay it will save you tons. I might even have a spare somewhere
