Has anyone noticed issues with starting the car when its hot out, or after its been driven for +30 minutes on the highway? It takes a little longer to crank, and the subsequent vroom that follow is muted. It has a newer Interstate battery installed last year, and this problem doesn't happen on cooler days.

Still, is it time for a new battery?

    Thanks.

    Re: Hot starts

If you suspect the battery being the problem get it load tested. During startup there are a few variables that change the target rpm range, like coolant temps.

You can increase the ground wire gauge from the block to the body/battery and the alternator to battery wire gauge to help out some.

Heat should actually make the battery perform better...

Cold hurts battery performance, but doesn't damage the battery
Heat helps battery performance, but can damage the battery

My guess is, like Blizz said, the heat's probably having an effect on something else, like coolant temps...

        Re: Hot starts

the "vroom" you are talking about is closed/open loop, when the car is warm it will almost immediately go into closed loop.

Ok, the car sputters and almost dies sometimes upon a cold start, when its +90 degrees out.

I'll have the local Interstate Battery office do a load test on the battery then.

Perhaps its time to look at Optimas also.

            Is the MIL light on?
Does your engine bay get scorching hot when you park or something?
