  • Can anyone please help me? ICM and crankshaft position sensor problem

I had a problem with the car dying while idling and there was no spark when trying to start the car. Before that, I had put new delco iridium spark plugs and wires. Since there was no spark, I assumed it was the ignition control module. I put a new one in and now it there is spark and it tries to start but it there is some kind of popping like misfiring and it won't start. All the cables are set up right, I checked them 3 times. One coil is also new. What could the problem be?

Scan for codes, come back here with those codes. Easier to diagnose once we know what exactly its doing from the PCM's point of view.

The only code there was is the P0300 random cylinder misfire.

know anyone local with hp tuners? so you can find out which cyl. try swapping coilpacks to different locations as well.

THe problem is that I'm not in the U.S. I'm in Europe and there really aren't mechanics that know this car since its rare..

This is the newest update.. There is no spark going to the middle coil while the other two are getting spark. The car cranks and it won't start. Could it be a wire going to the ICM or something wrong with the PCM ?

Are you absolutely sure there is no spark coming from the middle coil? If that is the case, its possible that either the coil is bad (which is somewhat common) or a bad ICM (which isn't as common).

Well the ICM was just put in. It is new. I rotated the coils and I still get no spark in the middle coil, so the coils are fine, I also had them tested. What else could be the problem? If the ICM is bad from the factory? It was bought at autozone.

It wouldn't be unheard of for you to get a bad "brand new" part... maybe you can find an ICM cheap from a junkyard or something and swap it in and see if it still does it. Or just go back to autozone and tell them your issue and they may let you exchange it. Try either of these and if you still get the same problem, you know it's not the ICM

Newest thing is now there is no spark on any of the coils. Before that, there was no spark on the middle coil (Cyl 2 and 5) but now there is none on any.

The ICM was a Duralast one from Autozone. It might have been bad. Now I'm thinking of getting a Delco one from O'Reilly's but those are like double the price.

Ive never been fond of the quality you get from a Duralast electronic part. IF you're getting a sensor, or some other type of complicated electronic or electromechanical part, go with the quality part. If Autozone will replace the Duralast part, Id say go for it, but if they won't, spend the extra few dollars and get the Delco part.
