I have already fixed the high temperature problem when the car was running at the expressway with the A/C on. I had RK sports front ground effect with the stock air deflector. But instead of buying the special lower deflector, I just added a piece of plastic to the stock deflector and is working great. But now the little problem is after I drive the 20 minute trip from work with the A/C on. When the car stops at idle (with the A/C still on), the gauge goes beyond 210 about less than 1/8 of the gauge. Then when I turn off the A/C, the gauge go back to 210. Is this normal?

Re: hotter at idle when A/C...
The condenser is full of crap(dirt, leaves, grass). Wait till you do it, it will be nasty and your A/C will probably be way cooler now as well. Take a air chuck and blow from the radiator side out and let us know what happens.

Also you should get the extended air deflector, when my gauge reads 210 on my Aeroforce scanner gauge its actually 228 so its alittle off. LOL When I tried running my stock one one summer when my RK had cracked so I switched them , it wore down my hoses so quick I parked my car after a hour drive and came back out and saw a puddle , the top hose had split in half and the return when I cheked it was also getting bad from too much heat. Someone I know just blew a head gasket or engine because the stock gauge stayed at the 210 mark and it actually was over 260 and shut the car off. So I think the engine is gone. This is why i have a Aeroforce scanner gauge that reads all the functions I want to , 2 displays all the time, I do coolant and KR and then battery and fuel trims sometimes just to see how its running.Last edited by ssms5411; 06-15-2010, 04:17 AM.08' L76 6.0L 4X4 Chevy EXT.Cab LTZ Vortec MAX with Snug top cover, Dynomax exhaust,Hptuners& K&N intake

Re: hotter at idle when A/C...
The air dam gives the car more cooling so it isn't as hot so when you come to a idle. My car was seeing 228 degrees before coming to a stop by then it was too much for the fans to cool the radiator/ engine down while sitting. Like mine with the wrong air damm , drove about an hour in 110+ degree heat, stop and the car kept on rising even though it was off and blew the top hose in two and the lower hose was getting ready to fail also. SO if your running on the freeway at 70 then get in stop and go your car is not going to get it proper cooling. But first check your condsenor, mine dropped 30 degresss after a really good cleaning staying about 199 in town but it also on the freeway it will lower th temp down to 180 degrees , so when I stop in traffic it takes 5-10 mins. for the car to reach the 199 idle temps. Unless you have a scanner you can't go by the stock gauges , my 180 mark was actually 200 and 210 was 230 degrees, car will shut off at 235 degrees according to Hptuners. So what I'm, saying is the air dam on the freeway will cool it down below what you will run at idle and then when at idle it will stay at what ever temp your car can hold it, mine is 199 degrees in over 100 degree temps and that was idling for 1 hour just sitting, driving goes down to 175-180 depending on how much I get on it. I have also lowered my lower cell timing 3000 and below down to stock and that has helped.08' L76 6.0L 4X4 Chevy EXT.Cab LTZ Vortec MAX with Snug top cover, Dynomax exhaust,Hptuners& K&N intake

Re: hotter at idle when A/C...
I've had problems with my fans before on both my Camaro and my Impala and I just installed a manual fan switch to my Impala bc the fans would intermittently not work (I think bad BCM) but just yesterday I was sitting in a parking lot and my "HOT TEMP" light came on so I flipped the switch for the fans it started cooling down almost immediately... granted it was in 90* weather not 110*, but still I'm just saying that I highly doubt that the deflector is his problem... Would rather see him put his money towards fixing the problem at hand first... would his car run cooler on the highway with the right deflector? probably, but that's not the issue he's facingRebuilding the engine... Re: hotter at idle when A/C...
Do the simple stuff first. Clean the condenser and see if that works. If not, put the proper air dam on there and see if THAT works. iIf not, proceed from there.2002 Silver Firebird A4
T-Tops, Leather, Y87, W68, Chrome Wheels
Bone Stock

Re: hotter at idle when A/C...
I'll do it this weekend, I've been pretty busy in the afternoons. I'll write you down as soon as I done. Thank you, guys. About the deflector, would you explain what's the science of the extended deflector that my plastic add-on can not do?Camaro99\'3.8, original spoil package (no body mods...PROUDLY), K&N, Lid 3800II, SLP CAI, Flowmaster, Z28Chrome Tips, 180* Thermostat.
