  • clanking noise from rear

The koamaro has recently developed a clanking noise somewhere from the rear, sounds more like passenger side rear.

At first I thought it was my rear end gears since they are pretty old but if it was, shouldn't the clanking and noise be consistent with my speed? The clanking seems to be worse on bumpy roads and speed bumps. Highway cruising is dead quiet.

I have come to believe it is something exhaust wise or suspension wise. You guys have anything in mind to check? I won't be able to jack the car up until this weekend. Just wanted to get some ideas and opinions.

    Thanks.

Most likely your lower control arm bushings.

check to see if your end links are good

also check the exhaust hangers, and see if it is hitting somewhere. My exhaust hits on the passenger side because the pipe is too close.

          lol interesting replies.

As for control arm bushings they are decently new when I upgraded to aftermarket LCAs with the poly bushing design. So I doubt thats it but I will check, might as well.

I dont think its my exhaust hangers, as I have my exhaust dumped before the rear axle so it doesnt get tangled up back there. But I will check the rear hanger, as that actually might be it.

End links might be the culprit, since I have not changed them, only went to some with lower miles, so I will check those.

          thanks for the replies.

If you bought aftermarket ones that have fittings for grease to be inserted in and you overfilled the poly fittings, the bushing could have messed up. Ask me how I know. I bought UMI performance poly ones with the zerk fitting and over filled them and messed them up.

Could you explain how it gets messed up? I do recall having a really hard time greasing the fittings, they kept popping out.

Not quite sure. The guys at UMI told me that they just get over filled and bust the bushings from pressure i'd imagine.

How many miles do you have on your rear coil springs? I had replaced my LCA's which needed replacement and was still hearing a lot of noise as well.

When I replaced the springs it took care of all the noise I was hearing on bumpy roads and simply just pulling into the driveway. My noise started with one side then moved to both as it progressed I even heard it on the highway once or twice. In my case though I had 255k on the factory springs-whoops I didn't know any better. What a huge difference they made though and not too hard to replace or that expensive. I think $60 for a pair of Moog.
