• heat shields is for shuttles!

Hi everyone...I'm brand new to firebird/camaroV6.com., and also pretty new to F-bodies. I had a history in the early 70s with Olds cutlass/442 family, so this is a whole new deal. Currently, I am plagued with an intermittant rattle underneath the car. An old buddy who owns a body shop put an ear to it and says it is a loose heat shield. How difficult is it to gain access to, and snug up a loose heat shield. A muffler shop guy even suggested that I get it off the car altogether...wise move? Blessings.

I've never had any problems removing the heat shields from my vehilces when they rattled. Except for the Blazer, which it seems that the cat shattered & it's that which is rattling, not the recently removed heat shield.

    obtw, welcome to the site

At least two heat shields -- one around the cat and the other in the rear protecting the gas tank from the exhaust system. Very easy to deal with. Simply lift the car, check the shields, find the loose one and tighten or secure. I would not remove them unless I had removed the cat and that is a violation of federal law, like almost everything else.

Its probably the heat shield above your cat converter. Just jack up the pass. side and you'll se it against the floor board. The bolt came out of mine and I just put another in. Good as new.

Yeah, it sounds like maybe towards under the rear seat of the car, but nailing its origin with all four wheels on the ground is a bit illusive. When I lift up on the ehaust pipe slightly, it goes away. I'll try getting the passenger side up and see where it goes...Many thanks!
