• What can a 3.4L do to beat a 3.8L?

Alright, I know anything can happen on the street.

I have a buddy that wants to know what has to be done for a 3.4L. to beat a 3.8L.

Any ideas? Thanks!!

yea id say to start with - auto or manual.

if its an auto, a lot more has to be done as they are not as "strong" as the manuals.

if its a manual..well thats a great starting point.

either way - intake/exhaust(full 3" catback).
better spark plug wires and platinum plugs (if you arent running n20) -- irridium if you can afford it.
K&N FIPK or SLP CAI.

theres more you can do if you really wanna make the 3.4 hard to catch, but thats a good starting list, and the rest of the stuff can get more expensive.

I suppose you'd just have to have more mods than the 3.8 that you're racing!

As far as I know, if you have the exact same mods as a 3.8, the 3.8 will still win - it's just plain old got more displacement.

If you've got a M5, work on your launch and technique. That's where you'll beat the 3.8 that has your mods.

If its a 3.4 auto and a 3.8 auto (with 3.08's) intake and exhaust will keep him close. Cut-outs are great for a little better top end.

If its a manual 3.4 and a auto 3.8 I'd say exhaust would keep it close.

Manual vs Manual - see the first one plus maybe some gears (the manual 3.8's have 3.23's)

auto 3.4 vs manual 3.8 Gears, posi, intake exhaust and a good launch

Tell him to try to keep the race around an 1/8 mile if he can, the 3.4 has a greater advantage in the shorter races due to its stronger lower range.

who me?

If he's talking about me it would be a manual vs a manual.

I have a cat-back and looking into a CAI, TURBO!, or LT-1 swap, so if i get one of those mods I'd win but untill then...
Also, I have no emission laws so I could pull my cat converter...
SO I THINK I'D WIN!

does your fire bird have automatic or manual tranny?

A4 = Automatic 4 speed
M5 = Manual 5 Speed
