Storage (Long one)

Ok, i'm puting my car in storage for 3 years because i'm going to germany and ican't take it. I also don't want to sale it. Got plans for it (FFF plans [img]graemlins/rock.gif[/img] ). SO, what should I do to it to keep it stored for that long. I'm taking the Batt off, Fill the tank and adding a bottle of fuel stabilazer, taking the wheels of and puting it on jack stands and car cover. Anything else that i should do.

you probrably shouldnt fill up the tank, if at all try to have as little gas as possible.

if anything in my opinion you should try and take out all the fluids. Get out as much as possible. Gas, oil, antifreeze, powerstearing fluid, break fluid, and disconnect the batter and take it out. Probably put some baking soda inside a bowel or dish inside the passenger cabin so it can soak up any water vapor or oders that may occure over the 3 years. Can't really think of anything else I would probably do but then again thats just my opinion.

Also put it on blocks or jackstands, or else you'll get flat spots on your tires. Or take off your nice wheels and put cheap ones on there, so it at least has something on there. After three years the air will totally leak out anyway.

Ok, so it's better to take all the fluids out than have it full? I was thinking to completly flush at the end of the 3 years if I left it full on fluids. How is it better to be empty? LOL I was thinking of sorround wraping it! [img]graemlins/naughty.gif[/img]

I would have thought emptying the tank would be best, I never though about it rusting. But then don't we have plastic tanks?

I also think the stretch wrapping is an excellent idea. Keeps it clean and protected!

Do NOT remove oil(s), coolant (rust). Store it with just a little fuel, use a fuel stabilizer product (fuel does go bad). Do remove the wheels and put the car on jacks. If it's in a garage I also suggest a car cover and a couple boxes of baking soda (opened, mold is a bi***). If it's not in a garage I don't recommend putting a cover on it (wind/scratches/they never stay on). Instead put a lot of wax on it otherwise you can expect some "sun bleaching" in the paint. Remove the battery cable's or the whole battery your choice unless you want to buy another one when you return.
I've left my car many times for over a year. Upon returning I always change engine oil, coolant, fuelfilter, and oil filter.

I say fill-er-up and leave her because when you come back to America, our gas price's will be so high you'll cringe over filling your baby up while you got less than a quarter of a tank :D I'm kidding, Yeah keep it as close to empty as possible without running out of gas. Fluids left in a place for a long period of time can cause alot of stuff to happen, seaps/leaks, rust, internal damage because fluid is Matter, and has friction capabilities, and not to mention chemicals. In three years time, enough to grind away at a tank without being driven, especially left full because of weight aswell.

Best thing you can do since you're going to Germany... Have that sucker Fed-Ex'd to wherever in Germany you're going, and take her through Autobahn!!! [img]graemlins/rock.gif[/img] (Watch out though if you actually DO use the Autobahn, The "No Speedlimit" fact is only HALF true... many areas DO have speed limits... and they're all in German!)... Oh yes... Watch out for BMW's too...

1st keeping gas in the tank will stop it from rusting. fill it up to the top and drain it whe n you get back and put fresh gas in.

2nd the Autobahn has a speed limt just about everywere now and 3rd: i can read the sings just fine. they use the same number system as us 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,0 it just says KPH instead of MPH.........

I'd pull the plugs and put some oil in the cylinders to keep the walls from rusting. I'd also take the battery out.

Ok, I think i'm gonna go with a full tank and the fuel stabilazer. I'll probably run it for a bit so the stabilyzer would rech the lines and injectors. I'll strtch wrap it and put it on jack stands. Do the baking soda and a car cover.
I know could have been fun taking the car over but I allready shipped one and would have to pay for this one if I wanted it over there.But i'm sure my MC SS will be just as fun.The autobahn does has a speed limit of 75 MPH and you can actualy do more than that if you like with no problem.Well, only one problem. The insurance company will only cover accidents up to 75 MPH any more than that and you're on your own.

make sure the car cover is breathable. You do want the fluids full and fresh. As far as the stands go make sure they are under the frame not the suspension.
