This story has a beginning, a middle, and an end. I just thought i'd share.
My 93 Firebird always runs nice and cool, about 170 to 180 degrees (160 t-stat). This morning it was creeping up to about 200 degrees while driving on the highway. Not normal for this car.
Drove it home and let it cool down. I had a brand new spare 180 degree fail safe t-stat in my tool box, so 1 hour later the job was done.
Took it for a test drive and it is planted at 180 degrees.
Gotta love this car. It always warns me before it is going to break down.
