  • Missing During Acceleration

So about 2 days ago, i was driving home and my car whenever i pushed the gas it would start missing and back firing. So i thought i got some bad fuel so i used this stuff called HEET to hopefully get whatever bad was in it out. Well that did not work. So i was told to replace the fuel filter. which i just did and now my car is idling even worse and its still back fires and misses under acceleration. Do any of you have any idea what the problem could be? ( EX the coil packs or maybe i need to sea foam my car IDK) any suggestions would help. Thanks

Probably a clogged CAT. I was having the same exact problems (my SES would flash when trying to accelerate hard). I replaced my fuel filter, ignition wires, had my intake fully cleaned out, and still ran horribly. Then my neighbor, who is also a mechanic, had me rev the car while he stood behind it, and sure enough, metallic 'snow' came out of the exhaust on a hard rev. I would check for that, and if you see some metallic or ceramic looking powder come out of your exhaust on a hard rev, its definitely a bad CAT. To fix, I just gutted out my cat, welded it shut, and popped in an o2 simulator so I can still pass inspection. really made the car run much better too!

Just researched a little bit and came up with the MAP sensor could that be it ? I just cleaned my throttle body out and their was black crap covering the whole thing. That was about a week ago and after i did that my car had way more acceleration and power. Could the sensor be failing cause of that?

Wait, a misfire could be a lot of things. My v6 had a ton of different misfires occur. First things first. Have the coil packs checked. These cars are famous for coil packs going out. I don't think plugs and wires would do that, unless one of them wasn't firing or some other related issue. I would do what people here have recommended, but first check the coil packs. If it's a 3.8, have fun with the plugs. They are a b!tch to get to.

Get the car scanned first. Hard to tell what the problem is until we know what codes its popping.

                    Re: Missing During Acceleration

Definitely get the codes checked that will narrow it down hopefully.

Most of the times when I have had these problems it has been coil packs or failed spark plug wires.

                    Good luck

I don't know, I don't know what the codes are that are popping. Taking off parts and replacing them without knowing 100% is not a smart idea. You don't want to throw money at a problem.

Get the codes....we can go from there.
