  • Couple of questions... Please help

Ok, here goes... I've scanned the car, doesn't show anything out of the ordinary. I have new plugs, new wires, and the ignition system is good. My fuel pressure is fine, and the pump has passed all it's tests. Now for the problem... My car seems to be running rich and has no power from a dead stop when at WOT. Could this be my CAT? I have an appointment on Sat to change the CAT, but don't want to throw the money away if it's not going to fix the problem. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Your Cat may have gone out ~because~ it's running rich. I'd start elsewhere... like sensors.

which sensors would I look at? Everything appears ok with a tech2.

Well you're diagnostics are a lot different than mine, but I would take a close look at the O2 sensors if it's running rich. Just start with the things that would affect the air/fuel ratio. Also, I've heard that a clogged cat won't really affect your off-the-line performance, just upper rpm stuff. Smack it, does it rattle?

it doesn't rattle when I hit it, but it rattles the whole exhaust system at about 3000 rpms when driving. As for the O2 sensors, bank 1 and 2 read lean, and banks 3 and 4 read rich.

It doesn't sound like the cat to me. The inside of your cat is shaped like a honeycomb. The most common way they get clogged is by the front part of that honeycomb crumbling and filling the openings in the back part. It will sound like BBs in a tin can. The rattle at RPM could be coming from a missing bolt on a heat guard or loose internal section of your Y-pipe, something like that. As for your diagnostics issue... ? It sounds like you've narrowed it down quite a bit. You might want to get a professional diagnosis from your dealer. My dealer charges $65 and gives me a full writeup with part numbers.
