I was driving my car today and I noticed some smoke coming from my engine bay, so I look and I'm leaking oil from what looks like sensor of some kind (I'm assuming b/c it has wires coming from it) right above the oil filter... I'm guessing it's something to do w/ the oil system b/c it's leaking oil ;) so... my question is... what is that thing right about the oil filter w/ the wires coming out of it? Thanks guys

I have a 97 camaro 3.8L after reading my repair manual, I think I've figured it out to be the oil pressure sending unit, which is connected to the pressure regulator valve, which in turn is connected to the oil pump... now my question is... what would cause the sending unit to leak? a bad regulator valve? I'm alil stumped.. thanks guys
So it's a bad regulator vavle or the sending unit, or both? It's leaking from the sending unit, so I wondering if the sending unit just is bad? also... will I have to get a new sending unit harness, b/c oil is all up in the harness?
just go to autozone and get the sending unit and replace it. had it happen to me on my way to work one day so i just replaced it in the autozone parking lot and was done with it

I called the dealership to talk to they guys there, b/c neither autozone or discount auto parts carried the valve, nor did they know what I was talking about, and the guy at the dealership said to just replace the sending unit and I should be fine. But the thing is that I posted alil bit ago about my oil pressure being like 90 psi, and then after it warms up it idles at 45 psi... and someone said it was probably a weak regulator valve spring, so I'm gunna try the new sending unit and if that doesn't fix it, I'll go w/ the new valve, (w/ my luck I'll probably need the new valve anyways ;) ) So... thanks guys... very helpful as always...
